Our guidance on researching and writing a grant

  • How to Research Organizations that have Grant Programs?

    • Ask your city public library (Santa Barbara Public Library has a program that you have to use there)

    • Google “Foundations that grant funds to artists”

    • Go to the founders websites and look over the grant section and see who they fund and their average amount they fund. We recommend calling the foundations or grantor to see if you qualify and if they like the project and believe it is fundable by them and how much you should ask for. Connecting with a person at the foundation creating a good rapport can help you get a foot in the door. This contact might might be open to reviewing your grant before you turn it in.

  • Our Grant Writing Tips

    • Tell your story from the heart

    • Explain why your project is important now

    • Tell them how it benefits people

    • What is the expected outcome of your project
